This is 10 years of work by a person, people, a show, a scene that I just can't put in to words what they all mean to me. Now that live comedy is changed forever, this may be the closest thing we have to a yearbook, history book, first hand account of a remarkable time. On my first show in LA I met these scrappy show producers and they have been keeping me around ever since.
I just read this thing cover to cover, and I urge any comedy fan to do the same. Mandee's photos are, of course, breathtaking, but the insights and interview style really feels like a conversation from a place of pure love. It is just an honor to be a part of it. Buy this!

I am thrilled as fuck to celebrate the release of Mandee’s new book chronicling the history of independent comedy in Los Angeles through interviews with comics and the polaroid portraits she’s taken of us throughout the ten-year run of The Super Serious Show.
It’s hard to track progress in a discipline as immaterial as stand up, but being booked on any of Joel and Mandee’s shows always felt like a moment of arrival, especially the night she took my portrait, and especially now seeing it in this gorgeous tome next to so many of my friends and peers and heroes (I look back fondly on that hair, so poignant in its betrayal of effort when I wanted nothing more than to project the impossible chimera of “effortlessness”)
The rules were this: if you performed on Super Serious, Mandee would take two photos of you—one silly, one serious. What’s special is her discipline as an artist, her fidelity to the simplicity of this iterative project, that lends its culmination the Mentos n’ Coke alchemy of being greater than the sum of its parts. Blam!
I love you Mandee! Congratulations!

So honored to be included in the Super Serious!! For those that don’t know, Mandee and Joel run the best LA comedy night called The Super Serious Show.
Before moving to LA, I wanted to be a part of a scene like the one I’d heard about at Nerdmelt. As soon as I arrived, Nerdmelt closed (weeee!). Thanks to Joel and Mandee, The Cooties and I were able to cut our teeth at this show and be a part of a scene that included so many great comics.
Also, Mandee happens to be the best photographer on the planet, so you should buy this book regardless of my sob story.

I am SO proud of my friend Mandee for her gorgeous new book #SuperSerious. If you are a comedy fan, this is a COLLECTOR’s piece & I am not just saying that because she has some nice pics of me in it. It has a million comedians you love, photographed backstage at the Super Serious Show which Mandee & her boy Joel booked & photographed over the last decade mainly in LA.
They are both extremely beloved on the circuit. Mandee would be backstage at the gig with a REAL film camera. You’d only have one shot of serious picture & a silly one & then she’d print them out there & then. It was always such a lovely tradition.
Mandee & Joel are two of my favorite people, they welcomed me into their hearts & were a big part of my stand-up life in LA. This book reflects that love of live comedy & is full of pictures & interviews of comedians. All taken just before we were going on stage. 🎤 🤡
It’s a gorgeous coffee table book & an even nicer bring-to-bed book.
